What is dengue fever?
My friend told me he almost died of dengue fever when he was in the Philippines.
It's a mosquito-borne tropical disease caused by the dengue virus. Symptoms show up after after 3-14 days. It can cause vomiting, headache, fever, muscle or joint pain, and skin rash. In rare instances, it can develop into a dengue hemorrhagic fever, resulting in bleeding, low levels of blood platelets and blood plasma leakage, or into dengue shock syndrome, where dangerously low blood pressure occurs.
